The majority of the West Flemish comes from the team of the Roodhooft brothers. Alpecin-DEceuninck has sent three West Flemish people to Spain: Ramses Debruyne, Jonas Rickaert and Edward Planckaert. The most unknown name is perhaps Debruyne, a 22-year-old Rollegemnaar who can go to a big round for the first time in his career. He was already allowed to gain some experience in the Tour of Switzerland, where he became fourteenth in the youth classification. A nice fact: Debruyne is an ex-skater. Young Rennner himself indicated that he wanted to focus on long climbing, so there are opportunities in these Vuelta.
Rickaert’s role is now known: he is the man who has to roll out the red carpet in the sprint stages for Jasper Phillipsen. For other Sprintloods Planckaert it is the last Vuelta in paid employment at Alpecin, he will go to Soudal Quick-Step next season and hopes to end in beauty.
