An adventure: on TV the musical with the songs of Lucio Battisti

C.do you know the songs of Lucio Battisti and Mogol by heart? If so, then An adventure – on first tv tonight at 21.25 on Rai 3 – it’s the film that’s right for you.

Since it is essentially a a heartfelt tribute to the two legends of Italian pop music, capable of giving immortal classics such as Ten girls And Dance Linda.

Songs that are the fil rouge of the whole film and that accompany the two protagonists – Laura Chiatti and Michele Riondino – in their troubled love affair.

It matters little then whether this operation, in the wake of triumphal titles such as La La Land, seeks to revitalize with little success the musical trend also in Italy. The enchantment of discovering, or rediscovering, remains songs that are part of the musical history of the life of more or less everyone.

An adventure: the plot of the movie

60’s. On the notes of the timeless songs written by Lucio Battisti and Mogol, Matteo and Francesca (Laura Chiatti and Michele Riondino) they discover love. They get lost, then they chase each other and find themselves again, each pursuing their own dreams.

She wants to be a free woman, he wants to be a musician, but one fine day Francesca decides to leave the village to travel the world, while Matteo stays in Puglia to write love songs.

When Francesca returns she brings with her the wind of change of the 70s, made of emancipation, progress and escape. The two find themselves and their love is reborn stronger than before, but the story follows unexpected paths. Also because, in the meantime, another woman entered Matthew’s life.

The return of the musicarello

After the success of Oh Mama! And La La Land, also in Italy they tried to revitalize the musical, a trend that in the 60s met with a large audience following in our country thanks to the so-called musicarelli.

Sentimental Comedies tailored to the successful singers of the moment, just think that Gianni Morandi played seven of them from 1964 to 1968. Among which the famous I am not worthy of you with his wife of the time Laura Efrikian.

The actors Valeria Bilello, Michele Riondino and Laura Chiatti at the photocall of “An adventure”.

Thus, after the good response of musical films such as Love and underworld of the Manetti Bros., released in 2017, the director of Marco Danieli decides that the time is ripe.

Scripted by Isabella Aguilar, An adventure alternates scenes performed, sung and ballads interpreted by the excellent, and perfectly in tune, actors, accompanied by the imaginative choreographies of Luca Tommassini.

But the originality of the operation clashes with a very mechanical narrative plot, only functional to connect the themes of the songs. So if the film does not lack inventiveness, courage and (a little too much) freedom, the final result lacks oversimplification.

From ultra-sentimental thread that often touches, involuntarily, the kitsch of the photo novel, to the (wasted) potential of a story that spans the 60s and 70s, but treated with guilty superficiality. Fortunately, the magic and charm of Blue water, clear water, It’s not Francesca And Ten girls, immortal masterpieces capable of ennobling even the most disappointing and approximate of stories.
