Amsterdam New Year’s celebrations in the process of strong winds

It is not yet certain whether the Amsterdam New Year’s celebrations at the A’Dam Toren in Noord and in Floradorp can continue. Due to the expected strong wind, there is a chance that the celebrations will be postponed.

A ‘spectacular fireworks and drone show’ would take place at the A’Dam Toren, but the organization does not yet know whether it is safe enough. Tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. there will be alast call‘ place, let an information officer know.

Together

Only letting the drones fly without fireworks doesn’t seem like an option, she says. “They really want to do it together.”

In Floradorp in Noord, the traditional bonfire, this time the 70th edition, will be lit at 00:00. Northerners already are busy with construction. Here too, the question is whether it can be done safely. According to a spokesperson for the city council, the triangle (mayor, police and judiciary) is currently looking into whether it can continue. A decision may be made later today.

Also optimism

Klaas Rohde, organizer of the light and fireworks show on the Museumplein, is positive. “We measure the wind on the Museumplein itself and do not rely on the standard measuring points that are often more on the outside of the city. It looks good for what we measure now and it can continue.”

In the worst case scenario, it is decided to electrical fireworks let it go on and not the fireworks. “But we assume that it can all continue.”
