It was the reason for her to dive deeper into the subject. For the piece she wrote, she interviewed several women who had had unpleasant experiences in the workplace. “A woman said that her boss had asked if she could not wait with the curettage, the operation needed to remove the tissue, until after the Christmas holidays. Because it was quite busy. That is so unsympathetic. So little understanding,” she says.

Recognition for mourning

Among other things, the petition of Out and Van Rietschoten was the reason for various parties, such as the PvdA, to submit the motion. Van Rietschoten and Out initially argue for two weeks of legal leave. No precise duration is laid down in the municipality’s proposal. The municipality leaves it to the employee and manager to determine. “People with managerial positions know that this is the rule from now on,” says Heinhuis.

In the following CLA negotiations, Heinhuis also wants to set the leave for the partners. “Even though the woman has to deal with the physical part, the mourning has an impact on both parents,” says Heinhuis.
