An ambulance overturned in an accident on Monday morning at the intersection of Vaarstraat with the expressway in Lembeke (Kaprijke) in East Flanders. A 94-year-old woman from Evergem who was in the ambulance suffered life-threatening injuries.
The accident happened around 9:35 am. “The ambulance was hit by a passenger car,” says Emmeline Martens, spokeswoman for the Meetjesland Center Police. “As a result, the ambulance overturned. The two paramedics were unharmed, while a 94-year-old woman from Evergem who was in the ambulance suffered life-threatening injuries. She is currently being cared for at the AZ Alma in Eeklo. The driver of the passenger car was slightly injured.” The express road towards Antwerp was temporarily closed from the exit to Eeklo, while traffic towards Knokke could pass along one lane
