Also on appeal 18 years in prison for murder of ex-girlfriend

The 32-year-old Stephan K. from Barendrecht was sentenced on appeal again on Thursday to eighteen years in prison for the murder of his ex-girlfriend. The 29-year-old woman was found dead in her home in Rotterdam at the end of 2018.

K. killed the woman in the living room and dragged the lifeless body into the kitchen to open a gas burner. All this happened while her 2-year-old daughter was sleeping in her room. The parents found their dead daughter the next morning when they came to look after their granddaughter. The girl was unharmed.

The victim had broken off relations with the man a week earlier, after it was revealed that he had lied to her and financially disadvantaged her. The court in The Hague considers murder proven, because in the previous period K. had frequently searched the internet for methods to kill someone without leaving any traces and had lied about his alibi.

The court found the man fully responsible. According to the court, his personality disorder, consisting of borderline and antisocial traits, did not influence his actions.
