This Saturday the A10 South and East will open again for traffic. Those highways were closed in recent weeks due to work, which led to enormous traffic disruption around Amsterdam. Especially on the A9, the most important diversion route, the traffic was regularly stuck.

But before those two highway parts open again on Saturday, the following activities are just around the corner. From Friday 11 July to 15 September, the second Coentunnel to Amsterdam-Noord will close.

At the same time, work is also being done on the A4 towards Amsterdam at the corner. There, lanes are closed and you can be a maximum of 70 kilometers per hour. Rijkswaterstaat replaces the asphalt between 11 July and 20 August.

Leave that car at home

Motorists are advised by Rijkswaterstaat to leave the car as much as possible in the coming period, to work at home or carpool. “We advise all travelers to consciously choose whether and how they travel and to go well prepared.”

In particular, motorists who travel from Amsterdam-West to Amsterdam-Noord are in the Knel. By closing the second Coentunnel, the travel time can go up to 60 minutes extra.

Heat -resistant plates

Rijkswaterstaat will provide the tunnel with heat -resistant plates in those eight weeks. They must ensure that road users can continue to use the tunnel safely even with an extremely large fire.

The traffic is diverted via the A10 West towards A10 South, A10 East and A10 Noord (a round ring). The emergency lane on the connecting arch from the A10 Noord to the A8 (Zaanstad) is also used during the work as an extra lane.

If all this is over, the traffic nuisance is not over yet. From September onwards work is planned at the A10 Oost, between the Watergraafsmeer and Amstel junctions.
