Ski racer Mikaela Shiffrin’s return to the World Cup is further delayed. After her fall in Killington, the American had to face a “unexpected” Undergo surgery.
Shiffrin announced this on Instagram on Saturday (December 14, 2024). The procedure was caused by complications during her recovery from her abdominal injury, which she sustained in her fall at the home race in Killington at the end of November.
The operation took place on Thursday evening, Shiffrin reported. The 29-year-old said she felt uncomfortable and explained: “It turned out that I had a small cavity that was deeper than the wound tract, filled with old hematomas and not draining properly.“
Return to the World Cup uncertain
Shiffrin added that she would get in touch again if there was anything new. A few days after the fall, she said she would have to take a break, probably lasting several weeks. When she can return to the World Cup is more open than ever.
Shiffrin had the mark of 100 World Cup victories close in sight at the giant slalom in Killington. She started the second run as the leader, but then lost control and crashed into a safety fence.
