18:13
Luca De Aliprandini (ITA)
Luca De Aliprandini is a wild, courageous driver and is still driving full attack today. But that doesn’t work well, he’s often far too far away from the obstacles. He’s at the back.
18:11
Thomas Tumler (SUI)
Thomas Tumler wants to defend the Beaver Creek giant slalom crown, but will have a tough time today. The veteran lacks speed at the beginning, but this cannot be ironed out as the game progresses. Fourth place and almost a second to the lead are certainly not entirely satisfactory.
6:09 p.m
Lucas Pinheiro Braathen (BRA)
Lucas Pinheiro Braathen, who now competes for Brazil, allows himself a wild ride and easily gets stuck on an obstacle. The high risk doesn’t really pay off, but things get better in the lower sector. It’s second place for Pinheiro Braathen, Odermatt remains the measure of all things.
6:07 p.m
Loïc Meillard (SUI)
Loïc Meillard is still looking for form this winter. There hasn’t been a real top placement yet this season. The Swiss doesn’t do a bad job and drives a clean giant slalom. But he is also over a second behind and has to settle for fourth place.
6:05 p.m
Zan Kranjec (SLO)
The fourth rider is Žan Kranjec from Slovenia, who is known for preferring hard slopes. Due to the heavy snowfall last night, today’s route doesn’t suit him. This becomes noticeable in the meantime. Kranjec even ends up behind Brennsteiner. There are many indications that Odermatt’s time was very good!
6:03 p.m
Henrik Kristoffersen (NOR)
He is followed by the Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen, who gets off to an average start but at least keeps both poles. It almost lifts him out in a corner, but the experienced Scandinavian doesn’t lose control. Nevertheless, he is not faster than Odermatt and is in second place with +0.86 seconds.
18:02
Stefan Brennsteiner (AUT)
It’s the Austrian Stefan Brennsteiner’s turn and of course he wants to repeat the success of Cooper Mountain. But he makes a big mistake at the top and loses his right stick. This is of course a strong handicap and this is also noticeable over time. In the end he is more than a second behind Odermatt.
6:01 p.m
Marco Odermatt (SUI)
Let’s go, Marco Odermatt is on the slopes. The overall World Cup leader still has to struggle a bit with the hard slopes in the upper part, but then gets better. He also confidently mastered the “Golden Eagle jump” in the lower part of the route and finished in a time of 1:08.80 minutes. Let’s see what this is enough for.
5:50 p.m
It’s about to start
Beaver Creek is bitterly cold: minus six degrees and a strong wind don’t necessarily make the conditions any easier. Marco Odermatt will open the competition in a few minutes. We are looking forward to an exciting first round!
5:46 p.m
Six times red-white-red
The team from the Alpine Republic of Austria has one more skier. Stefan Brennsteiner (2) and Marco Schwarz (10) want to maintain or even expand their lead in the discipline rankings. Raphael Haaser (13), Patrick Feurstein (17), Lukas Feurstein (36) and Joshua Sturm (42) are also there in the US ski area.
5:43 p.m
Strong Swiss want to be on the podium
Meanwhile, the Swiss are much stronger and are also starting with five men. In addition to top favorite Marco Odermatt on the 1, Loïc Meillard (5), last year’s winner Thomas Tumler (7), Luca Aerni (22) and Lenz Hächler (35) are driving for Switzerland and want to collect more World Cup points.
5:40 p.m
Grammel leads German quintet
Let’s see what’s in store for the DSV starters today. Five Germans are there, Anton Grammel starts in position 21. He is followed by Alexander Schmid (24) and Fabien Gratz (25), who – like Grammel – could be heading towards the top 10. Jonas Stockinger (28) and Linus Straßer (56) also start for Germany.
5:32 p.m
Does everything go through Odermatt?
At the last competition in the small “USA series” within the calendar, Marco Odermatt is of course the favorite, even though he has never been on the podium at the giant slalom in Beaver Creek. Following the victory in the downhill and the mediocre fifth place in the Super-G, Odermatt wants to present himself better than last in Cooper Mountain, where he did not finish the race. But the keen alpine ski fan should also have names like Brennsteiner, Schwarz or Meillard on their radar when it comes to the question of favorites.
5:30 p.m
The Beaver Creek giant slalom
Welcome to the Beaver Creek Giant Slalom. Marco Odermatt opens the first round at 6 p.m. The decision in Colorado (USA) will be made at 9 p.m. A total of 60 athletes are at the start.
