      The conditions

Clear, frosty conditions prevail again in Levi today. With a clear blue sky, the temperature is around minus twelve degrees and the snow is correspondingly hard and compact. So a quick run should still be possible even with high numbers. A total of 81 athletes are competing in the first round today.

      Are there finally Levi points?

Fabio Gstrein, Austria’s best slalom runner last winter, has never been able to score points in Levi. Accordingly, he might want to change that today. He starts the race with start number seven from the top group. Manuel Feller will be the next Austrian to go into the slope in twelfth place. Dominik Raschner (20), Johannes Strolz (24), Michael Matt (25), Adrian Pertl (27) as well as Marco Schwarz (28), Simon Rueland (43) and Joshua Sturm (45) also received the head coach’s trust for the start of the season.

      Straßer leads the DSV team

From a German perspective, hopes are once again pinned on Linus Straßer this year. In the last World Cup winter he celebrated two victories and was on the podium three more times. Today he starts the race with start number eight. “The slope in Levi is an old friend for me, which I know very well from the European Cup. It’s actually a cool route that, depending on the course, can be very easy, but also extremely demanding. That’s why I’m excited to see what awaits us on Sunday,” explained the DSV athlete with a view to Levi. The German squad is completed by Sebastian Holzmann (36), Anton Tremmel (61) and the debutant Dominik Zerhoch.

      Meillard opens the first round

The first round will be opened by Loïc Meillard, who should be one of the favorites. In addition to him, six other Swiss drivers are involved today. Tanguy Nef and Daniel Yule start with numbers ten and 15, as does Luca Aerni (30) in the group of the first 30 athletes. Ramon Zenhäuser will go through the pole forest as the 35th starter. Marc Rochat (37) and Matthias Iten (64) complete the team.

      Who are the favorites?

As always, it is difficult to identify a clear favorite at the start of the season. A year ago, Clément Noël triumphed in Levi ahead of Henrik Kristoffersen and this time both slalom specialists are once again among the narrowest circle of contenders for victory. In addition to Kristoffersen, the Norwegian team, as usual, has several strong drivers, and Lucas Pinheiro Braathen should also definitely be on the list.
