Alpine skiing: Lena Dürr conquered the podium

Ski racer Lena Dürr achieved her first podium result this winter with the irresistible Mikaela Shiffrin’s 80th World Cup victory.

At the end of the year, the 31-year-old finished third in the slalom on the Zauberberg in Semmering, Austria, thanks to a spirited second run. In addition to the sovereign Shiffrin, only her US teammate Paula Moltzan was ahead of her.

Four times this winter, Dürr had already had a win or at least a place on the podium in mind four times this winter after finishing first, second, sixth and fourth – four times she missed the chance in the final. So she knew how you “don’t have to do it,” she said with a smile on “ZDF”, so her plan was: “Do it differently.” No sooner said than done: as fourth in the first run, she was able to improve this time.

Shiffrin left the magic mountain south of Vienna with a hat trick after her victories in the two giant slaloms the previous two days. She has now won four races in a row, six already this winter, seven in Semmering – and 50 in slalom. In addition, she has once again come a step closer in the all-time leaderboard to her former teammate Lindsey Vonn (82 World Cup victories) and the legendary Swede Ingemar Stenmark (Sweden/86).

In addition to Dürr, three other German starters qualified for the final. Emma Aicher improved there to rank 18, while Jessica Hilzinger and Andrea Filser fell back and came in 21st and 24th.
