Alpine skiing in Lake Louise: Goggia with second downhill victory, Weidle in top 15

Italy’s Sofia Goggia also won the second downhill in Lake Louise. Kira Weidle didn’t go quite as far forward.

Because of the bad wind conditions, the speed specialists started on Saturday (December 3, 2022) on a shortened route at the men’s Super-G start. At the second descent of the season in Lake Louise, Canada, German hopes rested on the best German downhill skier again.

Weidle: “I wanted a bit too much”

On Friday, Kira Weidle was not entirely satisfied with seventh place. In the second speed race, she absolutely wanted to do better, but the calculation didn’t quite work out. “Just wanting a little too much“said the 26-year-old after her run to eleventh place: “Unfortunately, two very large mistakes built into the lower part.“You shouldn’t allow yourself to make such mistakes. But the nice thing is,”the season is still long, the shape is right.” And without error “it can also reach all the way to the front again.”

Team colleague Emma Aicher also made progress. The 19-year-old technology specialist bravely finished 21st and collected her first World Cup points in this discipline.

Goggia leaves no doubts

The Italian Sofia Goggia celebrated victory again, setting the best time of 1:28.96 minutes on the course. She also dominated both downhills in Lake Louise last season. Austria’s Nina Ortlieb (+0.34) then caused the surprise, who referred Corinne Suter (+0.37) from Switzerland to third place the day before.

After the men’s first descent in Beaver Creek had to be canceled due to bad weather, the second can take place as planned – the complete transmission in re-live.

Federica Brignone won the last Super-G in St. Moritz. Can the Italian defend her victory or will local hero Lara Gut-Behrami fight back?

The best skiers are meeting again this year in Lake Louise in Canada – the downhill run in full length with Thomas Dreßen.
