The Canadian James Crawford celebrated his first World Cup victory on the legendary Streif and won the downhill in Kitzbühel.
In a thrilling race, the Super-G world champion with start number 20 prevailed, eight hundredths ahead of the Swiss Alexis Monney. In third place, Cameron Alexander (+0.22 seconds) made the Canadian dream day perfect.
Favorite Marco Odermatt (Switzerland), who won the Super-G on Friday, experienced disappointment in sixth place (+0.55), as did the hosts from Austria, who missed the podium in a Kitzbühel downhill for the fourth time in a row. The best ÖSV driver was Daniel Hemetsberger in fourth place (+0.43).
Streif record man Romed Baumann (Kiefersfelden) was the best German in the intermediate ranking after 30 riders in 17th place on his 21st descent on the Streif.
Crawford is the first Canadian in 32 years to triumph on the Streif. In 1983, Todd Brooker was the last of the “Crazy Canucks” to win, who shook up the speed world from the 70s onwards.
