Ski star Mikaela Shiffrin shocked the winter sports scene with her severe fall. Now she has spoken openly and emotionally about the serious consequences of the accident.

The American ski racer Mikaela Shiffrin spoke openly about her mental problems after a serious fall in the giant slalom in Killington in November last year in the ServusTV show “Sport & Talk Special”. As she explained in the show, she had to deal with considerable psychological stress as a result of the accident: “I almost felt crazy.”

The accident meant that Shiffrin had to pause for a long time and later admitted that the giant slalom, a discipline in which she could already celebrate 22 World Cup victories, became an fear competition for her. The two -time Olympic champion continued: “I asked myself: How can it be that it was never a problem, but now.” At this year’s World Cup in Saalbach, she therefore waived a start in the giant slalom.

Shiffrin emphasized that conversations with competitors and the support of her family had helped her deal with the stress. Despite her difficulties, she remains optimistic and now focuses on returning to the top through intensive training. According to your own statement, your goal is: “Now it says: training, training, training” in order to be able to cheer from the top podium one day.

The last giant slalom of the season will take place without Shiffrin’s participation. However, their long-term goal remains to work again step by step to the top start numbers and to regain their previous form.
