This year’s proceeds from Alpe d’HuZes amounted to almost 19.4 million euros. Immediately after the annual event, it was announced that just over 19 million euros had been raised through various actions. This was partly due to the efforts of more than twelve hundred people from Brabant.
After the spectacle on June 5, more than three thousand euros in donations were received. All the money is intended for scientific research into cancer. The amount is higher than last year, but much less than the record of thirteen years ago. Then the counter stopped at 32.1 million.

Every year thousands of people from our country participate in Alpe d’HuZes. They walk (at different speeds) or cycle up and down the Alp to raise money. But especially to reflect on family members, friends, acquaintances or colleagues who have been affected by cancer. Wicher Mars’ wife, daughter, cousin, son-in-law and friends did this, among others. The 56-year-old Tilburg citizen received euthanasia earlier this year.
In 2021, he was diagnosed with metastatic laryngeal cancer and two years later with colon cancer. He participated twice in Alpe d’HuZes. His ashes were now scattered at the finish. “Wicher is sitting on a cloud with a beer in his hand watching us,” said his wife Birgit Pechtold.

Erik Justra, chairman of this almost 20-year tradition, is very happy with the proceeds. And Dorine Manson, director of the Dutch Cancer Society, is also full of praise: “What an impressive result. Alpe d’HuZes proves every year that solidarity can move a lot of mountains. Our ultimate dream is a world without cancer.”
