Alonso can imagine a change – Tuchel successor?

FC Bayern is looking for a successor to Thomas Tuchel. The preferred candidate should be Xabi Alonso. The Spaniard doesn’t seem averse to a change.

Thomas Tuchel’s departure from FC Bayern has long been decided. In the summer, a new coach should lead the Munich team back onto the road to success. According to information from the pay-TV broadcaster Sky, initial discussions have already taken place with preferred candidate Xabi Alonso. It is said that the Bayer Leverkusen coach is open to a change.

Alonso has not yet made a final decision. At FC Bayern, however, they are “cautiously optimistic” that the Spaniard will actually coach the German record champions in the future. The club does have well-known competition from Liverpool FC for the 42-year-old’s services. But the Munich team had the information that Alonso would go to Bayern if he moved.

At Liverpool FC he would have to take on the difficult legacy of cult figure Jürgen Klopp. The Leverkusen coach should have the feeling that he has more to lose than gain in this role.

Alonso’s contract with the “Werkself” runs until 2026. An exit clause only comes into effect in the summer of 2025. Then he should leave the current league leader for the fixed sum of 15 million euros. If FC Bayern wants to bring Alonso to Munich this summer, the club would probably have to pay between 15 and 25 million euros, according to Sky.
