Almost six thousand visitors for the pop-up TT Museum at RTV Drenthe

Well-known motorcycle racers such as Boet van Dulmen and Valentino Rossi were the focus of the exhibition, as well as the TT Nights. Looijenga also saw many fans from the south come by. Especially for Boet van Dulmen, who lived in Ammerzoden until his death in 2021. “This morning at half past seven, the first ones were already at the door.”

It is the second time that the pop-up TT Museum has been housed in the RTV Drenthe building. The first time was four years ago. Despite the large influx these two weeks, Looijenga does not believe that a permanent museum, which is open all year round, has a real right to exist. “People are now in the TT atmosphere, then they like to visit the museum. But I foresee problems for a longer period of time. I think it will be difficult to attract enough visitors for the rest of the year to complete the operation get,” said Looijenga.

Nevertheless, there are serious plans for a permanent TT Museum in the provincial capital. The TT Museum Assen Foundation has been working on this for years now. A plan has been submitted to the municipality, for which they would like financial support. And a building is already in the picture, that is the former cinema and later discotheque Diana in the Brinkstraat.

The Foundation recently received a 20,000 euro subsidy from the municipality of Assen. With that money, the first draft plan, which was submitted a year ago, must be further deepened. A concrete museum plan should be on the table after the summer.
