The origin of Mother’s Day
You may think that Mother’s Day is a commercial day, conceived by a flower seller or chocolatier to make more profit. Not so. According to History Is Mother’s Day, as we know it now, conceived by activist Anna Jarvis. The mother of the American died in 1905, after which Anna came up with a special day to honor all mothers. She chose her mother’s death on Sunday after the day of death: the second Sunday in May.
In 1914, US President Woodrow Wilson stated: “I propose that from now on we celebrate Mother’s Day with the entire country every year.” So happened. Later the holiday blew over to Europe.
