Almost 78,000 new corona cases registered

Between Sunday morning and Monday morning, 77,648 positive corona tests were registered. In reality, more infections have been identified, because the backlog has increased further in the past day.

Amsterdam recorded 2,827 positive tests in the past day. This is followed by Breda with 2347 new cases, but there may also be many follow-up reports. On Sunday there were only 175 positive tests in Breda. This is followed by The Hague (1841), Utrecht (1796) and Leiden (1341). 1055 confirmed infections have been registered in Rotterdam, good for tenth place. Schiermonnikoog was the only municipality to have no positive tests.

The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) received 539,313 reports of positive tests in the past seven days, but the large backlog means that there were probably more than 600,000 positive tests. On average, it amounts to 77,045 new cases per day.

The number of deaths continues to fluctuate at about the same level. In the past day, RIVM received four reports that corona patients have died as a result of their infection. It concerns two people from Haarlem, someone from Landgraaf and someone from the Amsterdam-Amstelland region whose place of residence is unknown. The fact that the deaths of these people have now been reported does not mean that they have died in the past day. In addition, the actual number of deaths may be higher, as it is not mandatory to report that a corona patient has died from the infection.

In the past week, 65 deaths have been registered, an average of about 9 per day.
