Flanders provides an unseen budget and cheaper loans for housing companies for construction and renovation. Nevertheless, the rent for new social tenants increases by 30 to 50 euros per month. “Everyone will have to contribute,” says Depraetere.
“For those who already have a social home, nothing changes. New tenants are still going to pay considerably less than on the private market, and get a lower energy bill and more living comfort in return,” the minister concludes.
