Travis singer Fran Healy mourns the best friend Wolfgang Becker
Fran Healy shared his thoughts on the death of the filmmaker Wolfgang Becker, who died on Thursday (December 12th), with whom he was friends. The two got to know each other in the nineties after the Scottish Travis boss moved to Berlin. Becker played the main role in the funniest Travis video, “Another Guy” from 2013 and also directed the direction.
Travis – “Another Guy”:
Even after Healys moved to Los Angeles, they stayed in close contact. Most recently, Healy delivered a “Shoutout for Wolfgang” off the stage at his Berlin concert with Travis. Now Healy spoke up on social media to say goodbye to him. In it he describes Becker as his best friend.
Fran Healy on X:
“I didn’t want to act prematurely, but on Thursday Susanne, my best friend’s wife, called desperately at 3:52 p.m. Our beloved Wolfgang had left us. I had only texted with him a few days earlier and he was in good spirits after filming his latest film and was looking forward to the cut. ”
The smartest person I have ever met
“What a gap he leaves. He made my time so special in Berlin. He looked after his friends so much and somehow, God knows why, particularly loved. And me. He described me as a sun child. “Sun Child”. He was a punk and a gentle, thoughtful, love and complicated soul. The smartest person I have ever met, and the greatest storyteller of all time. He was a chaos magnet. “
Healy also summarizes Becker’s influence on German cinema:
“Not to mention that he sincerely revived the German film industry with his timeless masterpiece ‘Goodbye Lenin’ in the early 1990s. He will always be close to me … In fact he sits next to me and tells me that I should mention the nights in the Philharmonic we had, or when I took him to get to know his hero Paul McCartney, or the night, in the He turned out to Paul Thomas Anderson in our kitchen.
For everyone who is interested: he directed one of my absolute favorite videos from Travis, which was shot with a crappy VHS camera from the legendary cameraman Jürgen Jürges (Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Michael Haneke) and also deceased Peter R. Adam was cut. I told him that he shouldn’t smile when the camera is running. He didn’t disappoint me. I leave it. “
