Kay Bernstein (42) wants the “Berlin way”!
After the departure of Lars Windhorst (46) and Fredi Bobic (51), the Hertha President is trying to bring the blue and white identity back to the club. He brought back “Zecke” Neuendorf (48) and Benjamin Weber (42).
Berlin talents should also get the coals out of the fire for Hertha on the pitch. After all, it worked relatively well last weekend (4-1 win against Gladbach).
However, most of the really good kickers left the capital sooner or later. In the new focus episode of “Stammplatz”, the daily football podcast from BILD, BILD reporter Paul Gorgas puts together an eleven that shows what the Berlin way 2023 could have looked like.

defense
Julian Eitschenberger (18/Hertha BSC)
Eitschenberger is the great hope for the right-back position with the Berliners. Has made 14 appearances in the regional league so far this season.
Jerome Boateng (34/Olympique Lyon)
Boateng not only became German B youth champion with Hertha, but later also won two Champions Leagues (2013 and 2020) with Bayern and world champion with Germany (2014).
Antonio Ruediger (29/Real Madrid)
Rüdiger, who was born in Berlin, played for Hertha’s neighboring club Hertha Zehlendorf, among others. Later, however, he did not switch to the big capital city club, but to the youth team of BVB. Won Europe and Champions League with Chelsea.

John Anthony Brooks (30/TSG Hoffenheim)
Brooks moved from Benfica to TSG Hoffenheim in the winter, making him one of the biggest contenders in the relegation battle – instead of being a helper for the club in his hometown.
Nico Schulz (29/Borussia Dortmund)
Schulz no longer gets a chance at BVB. The ex-Hertha player has not yet been used this season. A return to Berlin in the winter fell through.
midfield
Kevin-Prince Boateng (35/Hertha BSC)
Boateng returned to Berlin in 2021 after a number of positions throughout Europe. Is the absolute identification figure, but usually only comes from the bank.
Robert Andrich (28/Bayer Leverkusen)
Andrich used to play for Hertha’s reserves, but didn’t make the leap to the pros. Came back to Berlin via detours, but to Union. Was an absolute top performer there and now plays with Leverkusen in Europe.

Hany Mukhtar (27/Nashville FC)
Mukhtar was considered a mega talent, but could not really assert himself in the Bundesliga (17 games/0 goals). Is now a regular player in his team in the MLS (USA), in 2022 he was voted the best player of the season.
Storm
Maximilian Philipp (28/Werder Bremen)
Philipp started in the Hertha youth team, but he only made his breakthrough later at SC Freiburg. Was about to move to the Berliners in winter. Then came Bobic’s dismissal and Philipp preferred to move to Bremen.

Go on! Jessic Ngankam takes the audience with him after his goal to make it 1-1 Photo: City Press
Jessic Ngankam (22/Hertha BSC)
Ngankam is considered a great storm hope and is already part of the squad of the Bundesliga team.
With this Berlin squad, Hertha would probably be in a better position than the current 16th place in the table.
