The international toppers of polar billiards cross the choice in Assen. Both students and seniors are around the pool tables for these two weeks to get the balls in the ‘pocket’.

“A lot of matches are played,” says Willem La Rivière, director of the Royal Dutch Billiards Bond (KNBB). While the pros are concentrated in the main hall, their tournament is playing, the final of a school tournament is played at the entrance of De Bonte Wever.

“It is a precision sport, it requires a lot of concentration and hand-eye coordination,” said La Rivière. Under the watchful eye of the KNBB Poolen, bridge graders from different schools in Assen against each other. With banners and enthusiasm, the remaining players are encouraged by classmates.

The final winner is Bryan Palma Arauz from Nicaragua. He is on the ISK and wins the final in two jars. He receives the cup with a big smile. “I only have a month, but I will certainly do it more often.”
