Joy and relief in the public gallery from in the Alkmaarse Raadzaal Thursday evening: there will be a new Sportpaleis with a cycling track. The lovers of the track cycling lovers congratulated each other on the result.
Dream scenario
“This is a dream scenario,” responds former cycling pro Niki Terpstra from Bergen at the NOS. Together with, among others, Alkmaarder Laurens ten Dam and Reinier Honig from Wormerveer, Terpstra has himself made hard for the survival From the cycling track.
“The course is the very best cycling school there is. I grew up there,” said Terpstra. “Many riders from the region owe their career to that job, among other things.” And not only for track cycling it is good news, but also for other sports that can go there, such as volleyball, basketball, badminton and athletics.

The proposal to do the current one – in deplorable state to renovate – sports accommodation for nearly 24 million euros was referred to the trash by the council. The Sportpaleis from 1964 is as leaky as a basket and there is a deep tear in the floor. Several parties think the risks of renovation are too great.
“The municipality will then lose 130,000 euros more per year, but with that you invest in a building for 50 years, instead of 25 years. This is wisely investing,” says Bas councilor Gosse Postma at MediaPartner Regional city central.
