Alkmaar childcare evacuated after report of grenade, turns out to be fake

A childcare center in Alkmaar was evacuated today after a report about a hand grenade. The hand grenade was found on Laan van Tata by a man who was walking his dog. The police and the Defense Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service were immediately called in. Upon further investigation, it turned out that the hand grenade found was fake.

The police received a report around noon about a possible hand grenade found on Laan van Tata in Alkmaar. The Defense Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service was immediately called in. After investigation, the EOD concluded that it was a fake explosive.

After the report, the police decided to evacuate the childcare facility next door. “We take such a report very seriously, so we err on the side of caution,” said a police spokesperson.

It is not known who found the fake explosive and no further investigation is being conducted. The road has now been reopened.
