The German tennis star Alexander Zverev is in the semi-finals in Miami after a clear victory. There is another opponent waiting there who recently seemed insurmountable.

Alexander Zverev reached the semi-finals in Miami on Thursday and will meet world number two Jannik Sinner from Italy.

The currently best German tennis professional won 6:1, 6:2 against Argentina’s Francisco Cerúndolo in the quarterfinals of the $9.4 million hard court tournament.

Zverev left no doubt from the start and clearly dominated the game. In the first set he took all of his opponent’s service games up to 5-0 and won the round after just 30 minutes. He remained aggressive in the second set and controlled the game, secured two breaks early on and took a 4-1 lead.

After a total of 65 minutes, Zverev converted his first match point and secured his place in the semi-finals. It was his fourth win in a row against Cerúndolo after losing the first three duels.

In the semi-finals there will now be a new edition of the duel with Jannik Sinner. The Italian only recently prevailed in Indian Wells and then won the tournament.

Zverev said after the game: “I played well. Tomorrow will be the most difficult test against Jannik. But I feel good and hopefully that will continue.” Regarding his changed style of play, he explained: “If it pays off quickly, that’s even better. I planned that I would have a bit of a hard time. So far I’m enjoying it and hopefully it continues like that.”

Sinner has presented himself flawlessly so far and confirmed his strong form in the quarter-finals. He won clearly against the American Frances Tiafoe 6:2, 6:2 and has not yet lost a set in the entire tournament.

In the second semi-final, the Frenchman Arthur Fils and the Czech Jiří Lehečka face each other.
