Alexander Stubb’s family experienced moments of horror in 2015 – This is the life the future president’s loved ones have lived

Over the years, Finland’s new presidential family has experienced, among other things, unpleasant adversity.

Alexander Stubb, 55, celebrated his election victory together with his family on Sunday, February 11. From now on, they are Finland’s new presidential family.

Stubb is married to an English lawyer By Suzanne Innes-Stubb, 54, with since 1998. They have two grown-up children: 23-year-old Emily and soon to be 20 years old Oliver. The family also includes country cats Nala and Milo.

Many cultures

The children have grown up in a quite multilingual and multicultural environment. During the early years of their childhood, the family lived in Belgium due to Stubb’s work duties.

Helpmagazine recently listed that for the past six years Stubb lived in Luxembourg and Florence, and Suzanne in Finland with Oliver. Today, the children have flown the nest, so to speak, and the couple has settled in Espoo’s Westend. The residential area in question is known as one of the richest in Finland.

In addition to Swedish, the family also speaks Finnish and English. The couple’s home language is English. English has also been part of the children’s evening story time. Stubb has told in his biography Alex (Otava) that he told his children five words every night before falling asleep.

– When my children go to bed at night, I tell them five words: dream, believe, work hard, succeed. That is, dream, believe, work hard and succeed, no matter what you do. In English, even though our common language is Swedish, he said in the work.

The family usually spends Christmas in Suzanne’s home country of Great Britain. Their Christmas includes both Finnish and British traditions. For several years, Stubb has published pictures of their Christmas party on his Instagram account.

Home invasion

Over the years, the family has also experienced scary moments. In August 2015, two men attacked the family’s home in Espoo with an air rifle. The men broke the windows of the house with air rifles and throwing stones.

Stubb and his family were sleeping inside the house at the time of the incident.

Four of the windows in Stubb’s home were broken. There were marks on the front door of the apartment and damage to the yard tiles. The glass repairs resulted in a bill of more than 3,800 euros in total.

The case was investigated, among other things, as a gross breach of domestic peace. One of the suspects died during the preliminary investigation, so in the end only one man was charged in court. At the time, the 26-year-old man admitted the charges were mostly true.

The district court of Espoo sentenced the man to six months’ conditional imprisonment for damage, theft and gross breach of domestic peace. In addition, the man was sentenced to pay damages and court costs totaling 8,000 euros. The verdict was handed down in September 2016.

Family members

The mother of the family, Suzanne, was dating her English boyfriend when she met Stubb. Suzanne met Stubb at the University, in the city of Bruges, Belgium. Stubb patiently waited for Suzanne and the English boyfriend to separate.

The family’s only daughter, Emilie, graduated from the University of London in autumn 2023. According to the description of Emilie’s Instagram account, Emilie studied nutrition and medicine at the university.

Emilie also has an artistic side. Stubb said recently Candidates vs. Google – program that Emilie enjoyed musicals alongside her studies.

– I am a typical father or parent who has such a pathetic expression when he sees his child on stage. After one musical, I think I was in tears because I was so moved, the father said in the episode.

The family’s youngest child Oliver’s graduation was also recently celebrated. In the summer, Stubb posted a picture on Instagram where the family celebrated Oliver’s cap. Oliver is currently doing military service.

Oliver has especially inherited his height from his father. The family has even joked that Oliver is taller than his father these days. Stubb is known to be around 189 centimeters tall.

Rescue cats Milo and Nala became part of the family in 2016 through the animal protection association. The rest of the family wished for a cat, while Stubb himself was more of a dog person.

– Alex has said that he used to be more of a dog person, but remained in the minority at home and is now a cat fan, commented the campaign team.

Cat friends are like night and day. Milo is an adventurer by nature, while Nala is more of a house cat. What Stubb and the cats do together is mainly lying on the couch.

Cats could even be called social media stars, as they often appear on Stubb’s Tiktok account, for example.
