VPRO star Arjen Lubach prefers not to invite politicians to his program, because, according to him, this leads to undesirable situations. As an example, he mentioned former D66 leader Alexander Pechtold a while ago. He was once a guest in Zondag met Lubach and that led to some rather remarkable images. And those images got a tail…
Backstabbing
How exactly does it work? Arjen explained: “We had Pechtold and we had him dance the Macarena, which was very funny, like: ha ha, he danced the Macarena! And then he used that Macarena as his campaign music for the elections! I thought: that’s not the intention! Sorry, I’m really excited.”
Arjen dished out this sneer in Renze Klamer’s talk show and that feels like backstabbery to Alexander. He is now somewhat done with the VPRO star, he revealed in conversation with VARA guide.
‘Very lame’
It’s disappointing from Arjen, Alexander thinks. “I once sat down at Sunday’s desk with Lubach. That was a nice conversation, although Lubach himself said years later that he should not have done that.”
He continues: “On the broadcast he asked if I wanted to dance the Macarena, and I did so. Ten years later he felt it necessary to issue a rude insult because we had used the Macarena in the campaign. Well, too bad then.”
‘I often say no’
It particularly bothers Alexander because his visit to his funny TV show was a favor. “I say no to many of these types of programs. The smartest person, the worst driver, I know it all, everything happens at some point. The desk at Shownieuws. Boulevard. I was even asked once for The Masked Singer.”
Incomprehensible, he finds that. “Yes, then I quote my father: ‘If I want to be made a fool of, I’ll take care of it myself.’”
