Marcel van Roosmalen was recently a guest at VI Today and Alexander Klöpping asks himself in his popular Podcast about Media wondering if he should have. “It’s malicious. It’s a kind of subcutaneous racism. VI has a kind of racist underlay underneath. I find that very annoying. I wouldn’t want to get involved in that either.”

Marcel says something different about that. “A you have that in your own hands. I do not always agree with everything that is said there…”, he responds.

Alexander: “But you will sit there voluntarily.”

Marcel: “But I’m not involved when it comes to asylum seekers or whatever? Moreover, you do them a bit short with that, because I don’t think they are racists in essence. They actually represent – whatever you think of them – a voice that does exist in society.”

inhumane

Alexander: “I know that voice is there, but you shouldn’t make it bigger.”

Marcel: “If you have to give them one credit, it’s that they have made things negotiable. Because they are there, there are all kinds of discussions… They are not unhumans.”

Alexander: “No, I believe that. But you see them as a kind of pressure valve of society?”

Marcel: “Yes, and even then: there are more evil pressure valves.”

Alexander: “No, I agree.”

flapping ears

Marcel thinks that Marcel should not just dismiss the men of VI as racists. “I find it too easy to put them away like you do now.”

Alexander: “When I sometimes hear Johan Derksen, my ears chatter.”

Marcel: “Which statement, for example?”

Alexander: “Yes, he has recorded it so many times for Baudet and his antics.”

Marcel: “Yes, but it is a democracy.”

Extremely right

Alexander: “Let’s face it, that’s an extreme right-wing party. That is also allowed, but it is a question of whether you will join voluntarily and legitimize it.”

Marcel: “I don’t see it that way. I haven’t authenticated anything at all. I’m sitting there as myself and I’ve never made any kind of political statement there or laughed at something I didn’t agree with.”

Alexander: “No, but that is the inconvenience when you sit there.”
