In a week the municipality of Eersel went from three to one alderman. After Léon Kox submitted his resignation last week, Steven Kraaijeveld did that on Thursday afternoon. The reason that both drivers get on has everything to do with the fact that the Eerselse city council wants to build much fewer houses than it should be according to agreements. Not 5500 but 2750 homes.

Due to the expected enormous growth of the Brainport region (Scale jump), many new homes will be needed in the coming years. It has been agreed that 13,000 new houses must be entered in the Kempen, of which 5500 in the municipality of Eersel. Earlier this year, the city council already spoke out against these plans and it was agreed that it would be a maximum of half.

The reason for the city council to opt for fewer homes is the fact that Eersel wants the cores to keep their village character. At the end of August, the municipality was already tapped by the province. He sent a letter. “We do not think it fits within a distribution of ‘sweet and sour’ that your part of housing assignment should land elsewhere.” The province also announced that the law makes it possible to put the municipality offside. The government then determines where and how many houses must be built.

The entire housing discussion ensures a lot of tension in Eersel politics. Alderman Léon Kox took his bags last week. He was an alderman on behalf of ESA, the largest political party in Eersel, but no longer felt full support from his own party. “In the past period I noticed that the political and administrative teamwork was becoming increasingly complex. The collaboration with my group was also more difficult, with various interests and strong profiling,” wrote Kox in his resignation letter in which he specifically appoints the so -called ‘scale jump’.

On Tuesday, alderman Steven Kraaijeveld (VVD) received a motion of no confidence on his pants, which was co -submitted by ESA. On Thursday afternoon, Kraaijeveld announced that he too is leaving. Keyword here is also the ‘scale jump’. Kraaijeveld points ESA with an accusing finger. According to him, that game played the discussion on the man and not on the content.

The fact is now that Eersel remains with one alderman, Eric Beex. He still gets the helping hand from Mayor Wim Wouters.
