Alcides comes out of corona break badly

SOCCER – Alcides started 2022 with a defeat. The Sunday main division from Meppel went down 2-0 on its own artificial grass against Rkvv Velsen, the team that lost no chance last week at leader vv Hoogeveen.

Alcides, which was the only Drentse main division player to take action this afternoon, played a very mediocre game. “Especially before halftime we played into the hands of Rkvv Velsen. We tried to get behind their defense with long balls, but that plan did not succeed at all and with Velsen created a lot of danger, especially via their right side,” said Alcides trainer Wilko Niemer. Yet the 0-1, just before half-time, was an unfortunate one. “Glenn Arts was pushed and then hit the ball off the goal line and the penalty was used flawlessly by Ayrton Dol.”

After the break, Alcides tried to push, but the field game remained sloppy and incoherent. Leon Kooiker was dangerous, but didn’t score. Another goal was scored on the other side. Again a cross from the right created a lot of danger. Goalkeeper Pieter IJzerman initially prevented a goal, but had no chance on Marc Kloosterboer’s rebound: 0-2.

Many corona cases

“It was not the best restart of the competition, but not entirely illogical given our poor preparation. Almost the entire selection has had to contend with corona and some players have simply received a conditional blow,” said Niemer.

‘Survival remains the goal’

Alcides is 9th in the league B with 14 points from 12 matches. The frontrunner is VV Hoogeveen, which did not play today. The blue shirts have 29 out of 12. Alcides, however, is looking down. “Survival is the goal”, concludes Niemer. The gap with the teams in the danger zone is small, but two points.
