It completely failed: Albert Verlinde’s switch from Today Inside to RTL Tonight. And next TV season he will return with hanging legs. Although he is still under contract with RTL, he has agreed that he can combine Renze Klamer’s new talk show with visits to his friends from VI.

One piece of advice

Including Albert breaking news sit? That is still the question. He himself says to Renze, VI makes fun of him because they think he makes himself too important, and now Albert is backing down.

TV critic Victor Vlam in Show news: “If I were to give Albert one piece of advice, it would be: please stop talking, because you are only making things worse for yourself. He was of course really mocked at Today Inside, because of some ridiculous comments he made at RTL Tonight.”

Too important

What ridiculous comments does Victor mean? “That there was a lot of pressure on him when there was breaking news? Well, then you make yourself a bit too important as an interpreter there. He has been mocked by Johan and René.”

Why are they cracking down on Albert so hard at VI? “The way we should look at it is that this is also a kind of rehazing of Albert. He left the club and that is a bit of betrayal there. This is also a way for the gentlemen to get back at him a little bit.”

Heroin whore

Story boss Guido den Aantrekker is unrelenting towards Albert. “It shows that many presenters and experts in Hilversum have the loyalty of a heroin whore. They go to another channel for next to nothing.”

He continues: “I personally think that is very bad. I also think that if you are at a channel – and we all have wonderful channels – you should be a little proud of where you are. Just sit still for a while.”

Two years

Guido doesn’t think it’s bad for Albert that he has to sit at RTL tables for another year. “He came there for a lot of money, then there is still a year left and then I can imagine that the producer and the TV boss of RTL say: ‘We are going to give you a lot of money for that amount of money.’”

And what if he doesn’t have a subject? “Yes, but if you’re sitting somewhere for that money, you better make sure you have something useful to say.”

‘Be loyal!’

Albert should just choose a club and stick there, Guido thinks. “Choose once and you can be quite loyal to your broadcaster.”

Ultimately, according to the magazine maker, he was given more opportunities by VI. “Then I would just say: I will stop at RTL.”
