Alba Berlin wins and makes a special statement

The German basketball champion Alba Berlin remains on the road to success in the EuroLeague.

On Thursday evening, the cup winner beat bottom Zalgiris Kaunas 82:74 (44:30) and clinched the third consecutive victory in the premier class.

Reuniting with Niels Giffey, who joined the Lithuanians last summer, Alba played in blue shirts and yellow shorts as a show of solidarity with Ukraine. “It’s disturbing how it can all mess up. A catastrophe,” said Giffey on “MagentaSport”.

National player Johannes Thiemann was the best scorer for the Berliners with 17 points, who are currently 14th in the table with ten wins from 26 games.

The EuroLeague suspended all Russian teams on Monday in response to the attack on Ukraine. If all games involving Russia are cancelled, Alba could benefit in the fight for eight places in the next round.
