Albian Ajeti is rejoining his hometown club FC Basel 1893. The 26-year-old striker, who will wear the “Bebbi” jersey for the third time, comes from Gaziantep FK in Turkey and has signed until 2025 with an option for a further season. As the Basel team announced, the former FC Augsburg striker should be carefully brought back to his top athletic level after a long period of time without much match practice in order to be able to help the team as best as possible in the foreseeable future.
Ajeti, an eleven-time Nati player, only appeared in five games for Gaziantep this season (1 goal) and has been out since mid-December. “Albian no longer needs a big introduction in Basel. He is a striker with a very interesting profile who has roots here and grew up as a young player at the club. His qualities as a striker are undisputed,” said Ruedi Zbinden, member of the FCB sports commission.
“Nevertheless, after a long period of time abroad where he did not get the desired and expected match practice, he is currently not where he sees himself athletically and where we as a club want to see him. We would like to give Albian the chance to carefully work his way up to the team’s current performance level in the coming weeks – without pressure and with the aim of being back at his original level over the course of the spring.”
