For the first time in the history of women’s football, the Supercup was played today. Cup winner Ajax took on national champion FC Twente in Enschede. After an equal battle, Ajax had to recognize its superior in FC Twente: 3-2.
Just like earlier this weekend with the men (Young) Ajax and this match also started with a minute of silence because of the death of Piet Schrijvers. After this tribute, Ajax quickly had to take a hit after fumbling in the rear. Defender Lisa Doorn was unable to process a pass properly, so that FC Twente attacker Fenna Kalma was able to shoot the 1-0 against the ropes from close by.
FC Twente then stringed together a number of dangerous moments. Ajax turned out to be vulnerable in the switch. Still, the team from Amsterdam managed to turn the tide. Due to miscommunication in the heart of the Enschede defense, the ball came at the feet of Romée Leuchter. The wing attacker punished the mistake cold-blooded. After the 1-1 it became an even battle. Both teams created great opportunities, but there were no more goals before half-time.
Fast backlog
After tea, it was again the Tukkers who shot out of the starting blocks. Within a minute the ball was already behind Ajax goalkeeper Liza Kop. The Amsterdam answer was not long in coming: Ashleigh Weerden blasted the ball from outside the penalty area into the bottom right corner (2-2).
The match seemed to turn out to be a penalty shootout, until Marisa Olislagers struck hard in the 84th minute with a hard long shot. Substitute Tiny Hoekstra missed the opportunity for Ajax to make the 3-3 from six in the injury time.
Next week the women will start the new competition with the home match against Fortuna Sittard.
Ajax setup: cup; Cardinal (Van der Most/84), De Sanders, Doorn, Verhoeve; Spitse, Pelova, Sebajo (North Dam/68); Grant, Leuchter (Hoekstra/77) and Weerden (Tromp/84)
