The figures are about the money that the club spent and earned in the second half of 2024. Last season a net profit of 27 million euros was booked in the same period. That was because Ajax managed to sell a number of players for a lot of money in the summer of 2023. Mohammed Kudus, Edson Alvarez and Jurriën Timber then left for tens of millions of euros.
Loss of transfer
Partly due to the disastrous sporting results of that season, last summer was much more difficult to sell players. For the transfers from Steven Bergwijn, Geronimo Rulli and Silvano Vos, Ajax has so far received only 5.6 million euros. In the same period a year earlier, Ajax raised 74.8 million euros in transfer income.
Where the club made a profit on the transfer market in the last summer, this time the club suffered a loss of 15.5 million euros in that area.
Higher income, higher expenditures
The income rose in the past six months. Ajax booked a net turnover of 96.8 million euros. In the second half of 2023, sales were still around 82 million euros.
But the costs of the club also rose; So more money is still going out than arrives. In the second half of last year, Ajax spent 100.6 million euros, where it was 94.7 million euros in the same period last year.
Ajax says that the costs incurred in part can be explained by the salary costs incurred. In addition, organizing home games has become more expensive.
Winter transfers
The income from the winter transfer period is this year and will only be included in the next half -yearly report. Ajax already hints that the income is not high enough to make up for the loss from the first half of the season in the second half of the season.
Also the income from the Europa League (which are a lot lower than those in the Champions League) are probably not enough for a positive financial result. Ajax says it has started with structural cost reductions to make the club financially healthy.
