Ajax coach Schreuder about a draw against NEC: “The boys gave everything today”

Alfred Schreuder hardly blamed his players after the draw against NEC in Nijmegen. “I am very satisfied with the attitude of the boys, but I am not satisfied with the result”, says Schreuder after the match. The Ajax coach is under a lot of pressure after the disappointing results of the team from Amsterdam.

Ajax has not won in the Eredivisie for the fourth time in a row and that means that there is increasing criticism of the trainer. “These are all sounds from the outside and I can’t do much with that,” says Schreuder. “I mainly try to see what the boys deliver on the field and I am very satisfied with that.”

Despite the fact that Schreuder is satisfied, the team from Amsterdam is on 31 points after fifteen matches in the Eredivisie. That is the lowest number of points since the 2013-2014 season when the team from Amsterdam managed to collect only 28 points in the first fifteen league games.

‘I will miss him’

After Schreuder, captain Dusan Tadic joined the NEC press room. Tadic is fed up with Ajax’s missed opportunities. “Normally we score three or four goals and then we just win the game,” said the 34-year-old captain. “We have to take advantage of those opportunities. Jasper Cillessen kept very well, but we have to score more often.”

Last week it became clear that Daley Blind will leave for Bayern Munich on a free transfer. Together with Tadic, Blind was one of the founders of the successes in the 2018/2019 season in the Champions League. “We both came to Ajax 4.5 years ago and had a great time together with good results,” says Tadic. “Of course I’m going to miss him,” he continues.

Ajax will play for the cup against FC Den Bosch on Wednesday. This is followed by league matches against FC Twente and Feyenoord.
