Of the five largest airports in the Netherlands, Eelde shows the largest increase in the number of passengers and flights. According to figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), the number of flights increased by almost 10 percent compared to the same period last year.
The Netherlands has five airports of national importance: Groningen Airport Eelde, Schiphol, Rotterdam/The Hague, Eindhoven and Maastricht. Of those airports, Eelde saw the largest increase in both the number of flights and the number of passengers.
In addition to the increase in the number of flights, the number of passengers rose by around 5.5 percent, from 28,619 last year to 30,187 this year.
The growth is striking, since last year with more than 103,000 travelers was the worst year before the airport since the Coronacrisis. The larger airports in the Netherlands then saw a significant increase in the number of travelers. According to Groningen Airport Eelde, they recovered faster from the falling number of flights and passengers by Corona.
Groningen Airport Eelde says that it cannot respond to the figures from Statistics Netherlands.
