Air’s debut album

The band from Versailles spent three years honing their debut album, which became a classic. While Daft Punk were robotizing the dance floor at the same time, Air was opening up the lounge and chill-out zone for all those who had had enough of techno. Originally trained on classical instruments such as piano and guitar, Dunckel and Godin created the distinctive, both nostalgic and futuristic sound of “Moon Safari” on analog devices such as the Moog and Korg MS-20. Atmosphere is the focus: Gentle yet suggestive, the tracks float on soft synth clouds, accentuated by mysterious samples, acoustic guitars, muted brass and the voice of guest singer Beth Hirsch, who can be heard on “All I Need” and “You Make It Easy”. . The album’s big hits – “Sexy Boy” and “Kelly Watch The Stars” – have aged surprisingly well: real classics.
