There is a fantastic bookstore, the Ocelot, on Brunnenstraße, directly opposite Weinbergspark.

There aren’t just books on the shelves there – an interior designer has thought about how the printed works can be best displayed.

The friendly saleswomen also prepare a wonderful cappuccino for their customers, which is better than in some hipster cafés. But browsing also makes you hungry – so after buying books, you continue down the street almost to Rosenthaler Platz. The Aiko Izakaya is located there.

The Japanese grill restaurant has been around since 2005, so it can almost be considered a long-established location in Mitte. The menu includes much more than just sushi (from 1.80 euros). Ramen, Japanese curry and fried udon noodles are also on offer.

As a starter I order okra (5 euros) – cooked okra with soy sauce. Afterwards, the main course is Babekyubifu (20 euros) – grilled entrecôte with aubergine, zucchini and mushrooms in miso sauce, served with Japanese short-grain rice.

The meat is great, the service is attentive and friendly. Plus a good book in your bag – a perfect excursion.

Brunnenstraße 193, Mitte, daily from 12 p.m. to midnight. ☎ 280 981 11
