German double podium narrowly missed: the blink of an eye decides

At the Super G in Lillehammer, two German skiers are on course for a podium finish for a long time. In the end, only a fraction of a second makes the difference.
Germany’s top ski racer Emma Aicher has missed another great opportunity in the fight for the overall World Cup. At the Super-G in Kvitfjell, the 22-year-old only came fourth as one of the favorites. As a result, she was only able to catch up with the leader Mikaela Shiffrin by 50 points in the overall standings and was unable to overtake the American.
In the two remaining races in the World Cup – a slalom and a giant slalom earlier this week – Shiffrin is now clearly favored over her German challenger.
When Sofia Goggia from Italy won ahead of the Swiss Corinne Suter and Kira Weidle-Winkelmann, Aicher was only a hundredth of a second behind her teammate and the podium. That cost ten points for the overall ranking. On Saturday, Aicher had already lost a lot of points as fifth in the downhill and also missed out on victory in the discipline classification.
