Aggression more often in pharmacies: ‘Swearing and sometimes real physical violence’

There is a pleasant peace in Paul Jansema’s pharmacy in the center of Hoogeveen. But that atmosphere is not always there, the pharmacist agrees. Every now and then an overheated customer stands at the counter.

“In most cases it is anger that is limited to anger. In a number of cases it gets worse. Then it becomes swearing, getting angry in gestures,” says Jansema. “And in very rare cases that is indeed real physical violence, but fortunately I have not experienced that much in my pharmacy.”
