Lier’s Brabant shoe brand has been declared bankrupt. The court in Breda reports this on Wednesday morning. It was already known that the company had a hard time financially. In May all seven of Lier stores in the Netherlands were closed by the group.
The webshop of the brand also seems to have been removed from the sky. Anyone trying to reach the site on Wednesday morning will see a white screen with the message ‘Service Temporarily Unavaillable’.
Van Lier is known for his leather men’s shoes. The company was founded in 1815 by Goyert van Lier in Loon op Zand. Partly by Van Lier, Brabant, more precisely the Langstraat, became the pivot of the Dutch shoe industry.
In 2023 the company went to the fair and the head office from Loon op Zand moved to Breda. Sharing sale was less successful than the company hoped. Critics called the share too expensive.
Loss by Corona
Van Lier also had difficulty paying off his coronasuld of more than one and a half million euros. The company suffered almost 1 million euros loss in the past year, showed provisional annual figures.
In the first three months of 2025, sales were also disappointing. It fell by 2 million to almost 13 million euros.
