The Telekom Baskets Bonn celebrated their first win of the season in the basketball Bundesliga.
The Bonners prevailed on Saturday evening in home hall with 73:71 (39:39) against the EWE Baskets Oldenburg.
The first half was balanced: Oldenburg had slight advantages in the first quarter, in the second the Bonn.
The Bonners started well in the second half. They played more consistently in this phase than the guests. In the 26th minute Alijah Comithier scored 52:45 for Bonn.
But then the Oldenburgers, who had recorded some misses and ball losses at the beginning of the third quarter, found back into play: With a 10: 0 run between the 26th and 29th minute, the Lower Saxony turned the game again and pulled the “momentum” to their side.
Bonn’s Birts with two threes in a row
But Bonn also fought back: With two successful three-point throws in a series, Tylan Birts set a sign of strength for the Bonners: First he equalized to 57:57 (32nd), after an interim goal of the guests, he set 60:59 (33.).
Subsequently, Joel Aminu and Birts were able to increase to 64:59 through successful Bonn’s leadership. As a result, the Bonners missed several chances to further pull away. So it remained exciting.
Only 40 seconds before the end, Aminu made the supposed preliminary decision when he sank a three-point threshold from a distance of around nine meters below time for 72:65 for Bonn.
Exciting final phase
But the guests still did not give up: Oldenburg’s Christopher Clemons hit a basket. After the subsequent foul, Bonn Jeff Garrett Jr. only hit one of his free throws. On the other hand, the Oldenburg Kyle Lofton converted a threesome, so Bonn still had to tremble in a 73:70 lead.
Because Michael Kessens awarded two free throws for the hosts shortly afterwards, Oldenburg still had a possession of the ball. Bonn fouled, and as a result, Christopher Clemons only managed a free throw.
In the end, Bonn was able to celebrate his first Bundesliga season.
