Again Ajax cannot win, NEC snatches two points

Ajax was unable to win on a visit to NEC. It ended 1-1 in Nijmegen. With that, the team from Amsterdam has not benefited from the missteps of AZ, PSV and Feyenoord. They also played right.

The negative feeling that Ajax had before the winter break has not been washed away against NEC. Steven Berghuis and Bergwijn were missing from the team from Amsterdam due to illness. The team was shaken up in the first minutes, after Landry Dimata shot just wide.

Ajax took over the initiative and often became dangerous through Edson Álvarez, Davy Klaassen, Francisco Conceição and Kenneth Taylor. Just before the break, the Amsterdammers were paid for their work. Klaassen shot the ball hard behind Jasper Cillessen after a cross from Dusan Tadic: 0-1.

Just like in the first half, NEC shot off in the second company. A free kick by Oussama Tannane was tapped into the goal by Dimata: 1-1. Ajax then continued to look for the lead. Taylor again had a great chance, but he headed over and Klaassen also shot the ball just wide of the goal.

Álvarez still had the opportunity to give Ajax the win. Once again Cillessen was a spoilsport. As often today. As a result, the team from Amsterdam did not benefit from the competitors’ loss of points.

Next Wednesday, Ajax will visit FC Den Bosch in the KNVB Cup. A few days later (Saturday) the team from Amsterdam will play against FC Twente at home.

Setup Ajax: feather key; Sanchez, Timber, Rensch, Bassey; Alvarez, Taylor (Fitz-Jim/79), Klaassen; Conceicao (Rasmussen/91), Tadic; Brobbey (Lucca/72)
