After years of half marathons, Stan Niesten makes his full marathon debut in Rotterdam

Stan Niesten appears at the start for the first time during the Rotterdam Marathon. The Beverwijker has only run half marathons in his career so far and will now run more than 42 kilometers in a competition for the first time. On April 16, he will compete in the Havenstad.

In the past, the 26-year-old athlete mainly ran half marathons. In 2019 he made his debut in Valencia at that distance. His personal best half marathon is 1 hour, 3 minutes and 35 seconds. Last year Niesten took the national cross title during the Warandeloop in Tilburg.

During the Rotterdam Marathon, the Dutch marathon title will also be contested. Last year that battle was fought in Amsterdam, but this time Rotterdam is the battleground. Khalid Choukoud grabbed the NK title in the marathon last year, but will not defend it in 2023. The 37-year-old athlete misses the Rotterdam Marathon.

Schroer and Holterman

Ronald Schröer will also be present in Rotterdam. The 38-year-old athlete from Egmond aan den Hoef finished twelfth on the Coolsingel last year in 2 hours, 14 minutes and 25 seconds. His personal best is 2:13.52. Jill Holterman is the only top athlete from North Holland to participate in the women’s race. The Egmondse has a PR of 2.28.18.
