After the devastating aircraft accident in the US capital Washington, donations are to be collected at a benefit event with current and former stars of the figure skating scene. The event will take place on March 2 in the Capital One Arena in downtown Washington, as the US ice skating association announced.
Among other things, the reigning world champion Ilia Malinin and the 1998 Olympic champion, Tara Lipinski. According to the authorities, all 67 people died in the accident, including several figure skaters and their supervisors as well as family members who had flown back to Washington from the US championships and a youth camp.
Among the victims were the former couple runners Jewgenija Schischkowa and Wadim Naumow, who had won World Cup gold for Russia in 1994 and most recently worked as a coach in the USA.
