Tottenham Hotspur was able to cheer on the profit of the Europa League on Wednesday evening. However, the international press criticized the game against Manchester United.

The international press emphasized the liberation for Tottenham, but also criticized the course of the game:

“The Sun”: “No wonder that in a European Cup final between the 16th and 17th of the Premier League, the ultimate Rumpeltor makes the difference.

“The Daily Mail”: “The fans of Tottenham have been tended for years and now their time has come for a party. And young, boy, it’s a party.”

“The Times”: “After 6,297 days, eight coaches and four heartbreaking finales, the Spurs secured the first European Cup since 1984 with Brennan Johnson’s goal.”

“The Mirror”: “The 17-year trophy thumb of Tottenham Spur is over after the Spurs from the fight of the disappointed people from the Premier League in Bilbao emerge. Brennan Johnson smuggled the ball three minutes before half-time over the line in a desperate bad finale of the Europa League, in which Manchester United did not manage.”

“As”: “Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United had to wait until the final in Bilbao to lose his first game in competition. The defeat is the last nail in the coffin of the worst season of the Red Devils in the 21st century.”

“Marca”: “Ortecoglou made his promise to ‘win a title in his second year’, to qualify for the next Champions League and to eliminate a united team that was on the ground in a dramatic comeback season. And all of this two years after Harry Kanes from London. The irony of football.”

“La Gazzetta Dello Sport”: “At the end of an ugly game between two teams in the lower ranks of the Premier League, the Spurs celebrate.”

“L’Equipe”: “41 years later. Winner about Manchester United in the final of the Europa League, Tottenham has won his first European success in 41 years.”

“Ouest France”: “Tottenham wins a boring finale, a dark season for Manchester United. In a duel between two teams who fight at all costs, the Spurs of solid and closed against the Red Devils who could not react to Brennan Johnson’s lead goal.”

“View”: “A final of a European competition can hardly be more crisis duel.”

“Crown”: “The only goal in an extremely low -chance game actually resulted from an own goal of Luke Shaw, but the goal in the 42nd minute was credited to Tottenham’s Brennan Johnson, which is why he ended the competition with five goals.”

Netherlands

“De Telegraaf”: “Micky van de Vens heroic role helps the Spurs to win the Europa League against Manchester United.”

“De folkskrant”: “The long waiting has an end. The laughter of the opponents. The grumbling of coach Poseteclou has laid. Tears of joy were able to flow freely. Tottenham Hotspur, the big name, has finally won another big trophy.”

“ESPN”: “After a great disappointing Premier League season, both teams went into the game under great pressure, United as the 16th and the Spurs as 17th but Tottenham coach Ver Postecoglou kept his promise that he would always win something in his second season.”
