In recent days, about 2,000 of the 7,000 evacuated residents of the island of La Palma were allowed to return home after the devastating volcanic eruption. The homes of many of them are covered under the more than 200 million cubic meters of lava and ash spewed and left behind by the Cumbre Vieja.
