After the 109th Tour de France, the Deutschland Tour is the next highlight for the majority of German riders.
The almost king of the mountains, Simon Geschke, will probably take part in the five-day tour from August 24th to 28th, although his Cofidis team is not taking part. He should drive in the national team. The WorldTour team Bora-hansgrohe also relies on the German riders.
“We want to give the Germans a bit of priority. We have people like Nils Politt as last year’s winner, Max Schachmann or Lennard Kämna in mind,” Denk told the German Press Agency. Kämna was only eleven seconds short of the yellow jersey on the tour in Megeve, and the North German missed the stage win in La Planche des Belles Filles by less than 100 meters. Because of a cold, Kämna dropped out after the second day of rest.
Giro seventh Emanuel Buchmann, who was not in action in France, will meanwhile take part in the Tour of Spain from August 19. “Emu has already had a great Giro with his second top ten finish in a big tour. Now he’s driving the Tour of Spain. Then we’ll have a clear picture for the future,” emphasized Denk.
